Established in 2017The name David is a common masculine given name and it derives from King David a figure of central importance in the Hebrew bible and in the religious traditions of Christianity Judaism and Islam. We are here for people to come and reclaim their future as well as take control of whatever is getting in the way.
We believe people have the right to live healthy and productive lives, free from substance abuse and its consequences. We also believe in training those that come to out classes to become leaders in alcohol epidemiology in order to provide assistance to others that might be having some of the same challenges. We envision a future with less drug and alcohol misuse for those that come to us for help and do everything in our power to make that a reality. |
Our GoalAt David J Counseling, our goal is to identify biological, environmental, behavioral, and social causes and consequences of alcohol and drug use. We seek to help individuals develop new and improved strategies to not only prevent occurrences of driving while impaired, but also prevent misuse of alcohol and drugs from happening again.

Director
Karen Penny Barela is a Certified Addiction Specialist and Director of David J. Counseling, LLC. She is also a Colorado native and she has been in the addiction field since 2007. She has experience in a variety of treatment plans such as Level I Education, Level II Education, Level II Therapy, Offender Treatment, Moral Recognition Therapy (MRT), Enhanced Outpatient Therapy (EOP). She helps clients make a positive change in their lives as well as help them meet their treatment goals.
Karen enjoys cooking Ethic Foods, she is also a foodie and is open to different kinds of foods. She is also, open to learning about many different cultures she is fluent in English, Spanish and is currently learning a third language. She loves traveling to other countries.
